Under the terms of option B the electronic thesis is not freely available to download within a period of time reasonably set by the author, however the library is authorised to supply full-text electronic copies to individual requesters and organisations provided the work is to be utilised for non-commercial purposes.

It is very rare for there to be more than two examiners and a chairperson. The Library Services guide ‘Presenting your thesis’ has been written as the standard for all theses presented for research degrees in the University of Birmingham.
However, it should be stressed that this is very dependent on individual examiners and their availability and, therefore, it may not always be possible to adhere to these time constraints. Important further information about Option B: Your thesis should be submitted both paper copies for examiners and the electronic copy for Turnitin check after you complete the minimum period of study and before the end of the maximum period of study for your qualification.
When you submit your thesis before your viva, you will need to provide two copies in a “temporary” binding. Take two copies of your thesis and your forms to the Print Me digital shop or use the online thesis binding page and they will bind your thesis for you for a slightly less modest charge – but it will look beautiful.
Your chairperson should be a member of staff who has had some experience of PhD vivas and supervision. These are given to candidates in a list soon after the viva. Please note, that if you received UKRI funding to support your studies, an option B restriction cannot last for more than 12 months beyond your date of graduation for it to be compliant with the UKRI funder terms.
You must consider whether your thesis includes any copyright material submisssion to someone else. These rights generally belong to the student, but if your work is considered to be commercially significant students may be required to assign their rights to the University. Most people prefer to be there in person though you don’t have to.
Notice of intention to submit your thesis
You should make your modifications within the time allowed see below submisslon, and submit them to Research Student Admin.
